How To Upload Your Data To The Supercede Platform
Supercede allows users to upload files in their native format (excel, csv etc) directly from source systems, such as a policy admin system or sql databases.
There are currently 3 ways to get data into the Supercede exhibits:
- Non Template - Use the Supercede import wizard tool.
- Template - Populate a specific Supercede template with your data.
- API - Please speak to your client success manager for further information click here to see our API article.
Process 1: Non Template
Please note there have been UI and functionality changes since this video has been recorded. An updated video will be provided soon.
1. File Upload
Drag and drop your file anywhere on the Supercede homepage or use the blue Upload button.
2. Selecting File for Mapping
Click on the desired file name to start mapping it into Supercede.
3. Exhibit vs. Supplementary File
You will be prompted to specify whether you are uploading pack data or a supplementary file. Select Build an exhibit from this file.
Please see here for more information on supplementary files.
4. Upload Specifications
Answer each question in turn.
Is this file based on one of our ready-made templates?
Click No and then Next.
What kind of exhibit do you wish to build?
Click the relevant exhibit type and then Next.
How shall we handle subsections?
There are 2 options and depending on how you have set up your pack and the data you are importing.
- Create subsections automatically from my data - If you want Supercede to generate subsections from your data, select this option. You will have the ability to choose them on the next screen.
- Ignore any subsections which aren't already part of my pack - If you are uploading a large set of data and you want Supercede to only read in the relevant parts of the data set, choose this option.
See here for an article on the pack structure.
Select the applicable and click Next.
Is your data transactional?
Supercede allows users to upload and flexibly aggregate transactional data for your Policy Bordereau and the Loss Run, considering different data points and giving a consolidated view of your data in the profiles. If your data is not transactional select No and click Next. Go to point 5 in this guide.
For Transactional Data Only
If your data is transactional select Yes and click Next.
How should your records be grouped together?
You can select one or numerous records you would like to group by. When selecting numerous values, all of them need to match for the transactions to be grouped together.
Select all that apply and click Next.
How should numbers be aggregated?
Select the applicable way of aggregating numbers within the groups as defined in the previous step. Then click Next.
For limit and exposure values the line size is calculated using the individual cedent share values rather than the aggregated values.
How should text values be aggregated?
The first value is the top value out of your grouped values from your Excel upload sheet, the last value is the bottom value.
Select the applicable and click Next.
How should dates be aggregated?
Select the applicable and click Next.
How should Boolean values be aggregated?
The first value is the top value out of your grouped values from your Excel upload sheet, the last value is the bottom value.
Select the applicable and click Next.
5. Worksheet Selection
Select the worksheet in your file that contains the data to be imported.
6. Data Mapping
Click New Mapping to map a file from scratch or click on a previously configured mapping.
- Supercede will save your mapping configuration for any subsequent uploads. The mapping can be edited before the data is uploaded.
Select the Headings row - This is where your data headings are.
Select the Data Start row - This is where your dataset begins, excluding the headings.
- You can drag and drop the heading that best match your headings.
- Mandatory fields must be completed before progress.
- Gross and net exposure are optional fields. However, mapping it will require Monetary Exposure Base, Monetary Exposure Original Currency Symbol, Monetary Exposure Converted Currency Symbol and Exposure FX Rate to CCY. At least one premium type is required, e.g. Gross Written Premium.
- You can map multiple Supercede fields to a single heading in your file ('One to many' mapping). Simply select the additional value via the drop-down or drag and drop.
7. Derived Fields
The Derived Fields section at the bottom of the page allows you to derive certain database fields either as fixed values or as simple formulas using the existing columns from the uploaded spreadsheet.
To utilise, click Add Derived Fields.
There are a few scenarios in which derived fields can be used:
- Missing data in the spreadsheet: If there are mandatory values which are not included in the uploaded spreadsheet, select the applicable heading from Select the Field to Derive and put the applicable value into the Formula field.
- A new value which should be created from the existing ones: There is the option to create a new value from the data in the spreadsheet which has been uploaded via a formula.
Example: If the line size and total GWP values are given in the sheet, the gross written premium (cedent share) can be derived from that using the following formula: line size * gross written premium = cedent share of gross written premium.
See here how to create IF statements in the derived fields.
Once you're happy with your data selection, click Next. You can view a previous mapping without having to go through the process again via the View Mapping button next to a file. This will also allow you to make edits to the existing mapping and reprocess the data.
8. Data Validation & Cleansing
The data will be validated and cleansed automatically by Supercede.
If there are any issues or errors in your dataset, these will be shown on the next screen.
If the dataset is free from errors you will be taken to the applicable exhibit populated with the data.
